Lightning Lane at Hollywood Studios: 2026 Park Strategy

Hollywood Studios has 4 headliner rides and the highest Single Pass concentration of any WDW park. Get the order wrong and you'll wait 90 minutes for Slinky Dog. Here's the optimal Lightning Lane sequence.

Hollywood Studios is the most Lightning Lane-strategic park at Walt Disney World. Why: four major headliners (Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, Slinky Dog Dash, Tower of Terror, Rock 'n' Roller Coaster) all hit 90-130 minute standby waits routinely, and Rise of the Resistance is Single Pass (extra cost), and Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge has more attractions packed densely than any other land at WDW.

Mess up the order and you'll spend your day waiting. Get it right and you'll ride 12-15 attractions including all the headliners.

The 2026 headliner landscape

Tier 1 attractions (pick one initially):

  • Slinky Dog Dash — Toy Story Land's headliner. Long lines all day.
  • Tower of Terror — Classic thrill. 38" height requirement.
  • Rock 'n' Roller Coaster — 48" height requirement (older kids only).
  • Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway — Surprisingly long lines.
  • Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run — Galaxy's Edge.

Tier 2 attractions (pick two initially):

  • Star Tours – The Adventures Continue
  • Toy Story Mania!
  • Alien Swirling Saucers
  • Disney Junior Play 'n Dance
  • Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage (show)
  • Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular (show)
  • Frozen Sing-Along

Single Pass (separate purchase, $19-$23/person):

  • Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance — almost always worth the Single Pass purchase

Optimal initial 3 (most families)

For families with kids 38"+ who can ride most rides:

  1. Tier 1: Slinky Dog Dash, around 10:30 AM
  2. Tier 2: Toy Story Mania, 12:00 PM
  3. Tier 2: Star Tours, 1:30 PM

If kids are too short for Slinky Dog (38"):

  1. Tier 1: Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway, 11:00 AM
  2. Tier 2: Toy Story Mania, 12:30 PM
  3. Tier 2: Alien Swirling Saucers, 2:00 PM

For thrill-seeking adults with older kids (48"+ for everything):

  1. Tier 1: Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, 10:30 AM (the most consistently-skipped queue)
  2. Tier 2: Star Tours, 12:30 PM
  3. Tier 2: Toy Story Mania, 1:30 PM

Tower of Terror is often left out of the initial 3 because it has slightly shorter standby waits than Rock 'n' Roller Coaster — and you can grab it on a refill.

The Rise of the Resistance question

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is the single best ride at Hollywood Studios. It's also Single Pass only, $19-$21/person, with the highest selling-out rate at WDW.

Buy Rise Single Pass at 7:00 AM exactly. Set an alarm. Have the My Disney Experience app open. Tap purchase the moment the inventory drops. On peak days, Rise sells out by 7:15 AM.

If you miss the morning purchase window, you have a second chance at 1:00 PM when Disney sometimes releases additional Single Pass inventory. Less reliable, but worth checking.

The rope drop sprint

Hollywood Studios opening is competitive. Be at the gate 30-45 minutes before official opening (or the early entry time if you're a Disney resort guest).

For families with kids who can ride Slinky Dog (38"+):

  1. Sprint to Slinky Dog Dash at rope drop
  2. Then head to Toy Story Mania (or save it for your Lightning Lane window)
  3. Then Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway

For Star Wars enthusiasts:

  1. Sprint to Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run
  2. Then immediately to Rise of the Resistance Single Pass if you bought it
  3. Then explore Galaxy's Edge before crowds

The first 90 minutes of Hollywood Studios morning is when standby waits are lowest. After 10:30 AM, queues balloon to 90+ minutes at headliners.

Galaxy's Edge strategy

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge deserves its own playbook. The land has two attractions (Rise of the Resistance, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run), but the immersive details — building your own lightsaber, droid, food at Docking Bay 7 — are part of the experience.

Time-wise: plan 2-3 hours in Galaxy's Edge if you want to actually experience the land. Don't try to "do" Galaxy's Edge in 45 minutes between Lightning Lanes.

The lightsaber experience at Savi's Workshop costs $250+ per person and requires advance reservation. Best for kids 8+ who are genuine Star Wars fans. Otherwise skip.

The refill strategy

After tapping into your first Lightning Lane, you're eligible to book another. At Hollywood Studios, the highest-value refill targets:

  1. Slinky Dog Dash (rare to find availability, but if you do, grab it)
  2. Tower of Terror (frequently available for evening refills)
  3. Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway (sometimes available mid-day)
  4. Toy Story Mania (almost always available)

Show-based attractions (Beauty and the Beast, Indy Stunt, Frozen Sing-Along) generally don't need Lightning Lane — pre-show queueing is included.

The afternoon entertainment break

Hollywood Studios is the WDW park with the best afternoon entertainment options:

  • Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular — 30-min show, good for resting tired feet
  • Frozen Sing-Along — 30-min show, beloved by kids
  • Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage — 30-min show, ages 4+
  • Walt Disney Presents — 15-min film + walkthrough museum

Pulling kids out of the sun for a 30-minute air-conditioned show at 2 PM extends afternoon stamina significantly.

The evening play

Fantasmic! (when running) is the nighttime show at Hollywood Studios. It's a 30-min spectacle with fireworks, water effects, and characters. Plan to grab a seat 60-90 min before showtime (or skip with a virtual VIP guide who can secure spots).

Wonderful World of Animation projection show runs on Chinese Theater facade for short evening performances — easier to catch without committing to a seat.

How we help at Hollywood Studios

Hollywood Studios is where families most often hire us because the variables — Rise Single Pass timing, Galaxy's Edge experiences, rope drop priority, show scheduling, character interactions in Toy Story Land — overlap in ways that overwhelm DIY planners.
