Nothing deflates a park morning faster than walking your 6-year-old to the front of TRON and discovering she's an inch short. We measure kids on planning calls for exactly this reason — and this table is the one we use.
The magic number: 48 inches (122 cm). At 48", a child can ride every attraction at Walt Disney World. At 40" (102 cm), they can ride most of the headliners.
Magic Kingdom height requirements

The cheat sheet by child height
- Under 32" — parks are still great: every dark ride, boat ride, safari, and show is open to them.
- At 38" (97 cm) — Seven Dwarfs, Slinky Dog, Smugglers Run, Kali River Rapids unlock. This is the biggest single jump in ride access.
- At 40" (102 cm) — Big Thunder, Tiana's, Test Track, Soarin', Tower of Terror, Rise of the Resistance, DINOSAUR. Your child can now ride ~80% of the gated lineup.
- At 44" (113 cm) — Space Mountain, Flight of Passage, Everest, Mission: SPACE Orange.
- At 48" (122 cm) — TRON and Rock 'n' Roller Coaster. Everything at Walt Disney World is now open.
What to do when one kid can't ride: Rider Switch
Disney's Rider Switch (child swap) is the tool most first-time families don't know exists. One adult waits with the child who can't ride while the rest of the party rides; then the waiting adult rides without re-queuing, using the Lightning Lane entrance. Ask any Cast Member at the attraction entrance to set it up. It stacks with Lightning Lane Multi Pass, which is where the real efficiency comes from — we build Rider Switch into every touring plan for split-height families.
Measuring tips (from someone who's seen the tears)
- Measure in shoes. Disney measures kids as they stand, sneakers on. Don't plan off the pediatrician's barefoot number.
- Leave margin. If your child is within half an inch of a cutoff, assume the strictest measurement. Cast Members cannot make exceptions — the gates are physical.
- Measure the week of the trip, not when you book. Kids grow into TRON between booking and arrival more often than you'd think.
- Plan the "almost" rides for the last day. We've seen kids clear a cutoff mid-trip. True story.
Planning a trip where one kid clears 40" and the other doesn't? That's a routing puzzle — Rider Switch, Lightning Lane, and park order all interact. It's exactly the kind of thing our virtual VIP guides untangle before you land. For toddler-heavy parties, start with our Disney World with toddlers guide.
Height requirements verified against Disney's official listings, July 2026. Disney can adjust requirements when attractions are modified — always confirm on the My Disney Experience app for your travel dates.
