Disney World crowds in April

High — a plan is mandatory

The short answer

How busy is Walt Disney World in April? High — a plan is mandatory. April front-loads its crowds. Easter week is the peak of the spring, and once it passes, the back half of April is one of the better windows in the first half of the year — school is back in, summer has not started, and the heat has not fully arrived. The calmest stretch is the last two weeks of the month, once Easter has passed. The week to avoid is easter week, plus the weekend on either side of it. The two halves of April need different plans. In Easter week, treat Lightning Lane as a required cost. In late April, a Multi Pass bought on the day is usually enough, and Single Pass is worth it only for the two or three rides that never get short.

Why April behaves the way it does

April front-loads its crowds. Easter week is the peak of the spring, and once it passes, the back half of April is one of the better windows in the first half of the year — school is back in, summer has not started, and the heat has not fully arrived.

  • ·Easter week is the single biggest spring spike, in whichever of March or April it falls
  • ·The tail of the staggered spring-break season runs into the first part of the month
  • ·Late April has no national school holiday at all
  • ·Flower & Garden is in full swing, which keeps EPCOT busier than the other three parks on weekends

Weather you should actually plan around

Warm and still comfortable — highs in the mid-80s°F (around 29–30°C) with humidity beginning to climb. Afternoon thunderstorms are possible but not yet the daily event they become in summer.

What this month does to your Lightning Lane plan

The guide's move

The two halves of April need different plans. In Easter week, treat Lightning Lane as a required cost. In late April, a Multi Pass bought on the day is usually enough, and Single Pass is worth it only for the two or three rides that never get short.

Crowd level is only half the question — the other half is which rides justify paying for a shorter line on the day you are actually there. We keep an honest, ride-by-ride verdict for that in the Lightning Lane worth-it guide. For April, the three Magic Kingdom rides most worth checking first:

Doing Universal Orlando in the same trip? The month moves Express Pass value the same way it moves Lightning Lane value — see the Express Pass worth-it guide.
